The 2014 NGO Social Work Study Awards application round opens on Monday 5 August. The awards, funded by Family and Community Services (Ministry of Social Development) aim to support employees of NGOs to complete a social work qualification that meets the educational requirements for social work registration.

A study award has a maximum value of $33,244 and is jointly awarded to the employee (student) and employer:

  • Students can receive assistance with their course fees of up to $3,500 per year and up to $10,500 in total over the duration of the award.
  • Employers can receive a contribution to help support their student in study of up to $4,600 per year and up to $13,800 over the duration of the award (inc. GST). This can be used to help with a range of study-related expenses, including backfilling the employee's position while they are studying.
  • Employers can also receive a contribution to help with the cost of backfilling their employee while they are on their final three month external placement of up to $8,944.45 (inc. GST).

Pre-application workshops are being held during August, September and October 2013, providing an opportunity answer queries.  Applications close on Friday 11 October 2013.
