Lead Minister for Sexual Violence Services Paula Bennett says she is working with a range of government agencies on a review of funding for sexual violence response agencies. The review will look at:

  • the efficiency of funding provision
  • what drives demand for services
  • service duplication and gaps in the sector.

Minister Bennett said recommendations will be made across education and prevention, crisis response, and crisis support services.

The review was announced in May, following Paula Bennett taking on Ministerial responsibility for sexual violence in February 2013.

A three-year funding contract for Auckland sexual abuse agency HELP was also announced on 31 July, following a funding crisis. It is funded by multiple government organisations including MSD, ACC and the Ministry of Justice, which Minister Bennett said is part of a joint agency approach to sexual violence.
