The inaugural Eastern Bay of Plenty 'Yeah Nah It's Not OK' song quest has been held to find an original song, written by young people between the ages of 15 and 17, with an anti-violence message. The event, organised by the local family violence network in partnership with Family Works and It's Not OK, saw contestants perform their song before an audience and judging panel in August 2013.

Manawa Toa from Te Kura Kaupapa Motuhake O Tawhiuau in Murupara won the quest with their song 'Take this Away'. The band had the song recorded; it will be broadcast on radio stations throughout the Eastern Bay of Plenty and used by the national It’s Not OK Campaign. The band also received a rafting trip and their school received $1000 cash.

Take this Away is a free resource to encourage conversations about family violence. It is available via the It's Not OK Campaign YouTube and Facebook pages and the Yeah Nah It's Not OK Facebook page.

There are plans to hold a bigger song quest next year.
