Child Matters is offering their one year specialised tertiary qualification in child protection and advocacy in 2014. The Diploma in Child Protection Studies is "advanced level training in child protection, designed to develop leaders and ‘go-to’ resources within organisations and communities". It is NZQA accredited (level 5).

The Diploma incorporates self-guided study and six compulsory one week classroom blocks, held in Hamilton and Auckland throughout the year. The Diploma is suitable for child advocates and practitioners who wish to advance their knowledge; managers and leaders working in policy and workforce development; and anyone working with children who wishes to become a child protection leader and resource person in their organisation or community.

44 student placements are offered nationwide. Course fees are $1020 + GST, which includes resources and course material. To find out more visit the Child Matters website.

The Child Matters training calendar for 2014 is also available on their website.

The Vulnerable Children's Bill, currently with Select Committee, will require frontline professionals to be trained in identifying and responding to child abuse.
