Te Kawerau ā Maki, Ngāti Whātua and Te Rūnanga ā Iwi o Ngāpuhi, along with 12 kaupapa Māori organisations formed a new Māori caucus for the prevention of whānau violence called Te Waihono ā Kupe.

Te Waihono ā Kupe was launched last month in West Auckland, by Associate Minister for Social Development and Employment, Hon Tariana Turia. 

The organisations who are signatories to the kawa are:

• Te Kawerau a Maki• Te Rūnanga ā Iwi o Ngāpuhi• Ngāti Whātua• Tu Tangata – Te Atatu• Kōtuku ki te Rangi Māori Mental Health• Te Whānau o Waipareira Trust• Te Roopū Kaumatua o Waipareira• Tika Maranga Māori Womens Refuge• Radio Waatea• Tu Wahine Trust• Waitematā Māori Wardens• Hoani Waititi marae• Māori Women’s Welfare League• Tāne Atawhai Trust• and Hapai te Hauora Tapui.
