Rangatahi Program Launched in Tairawhiti
Te Kupenga, the National Network for Stopping Violence, has launched a project in Gisborne to promote non-violence in youth.
The Whakamana Tangata/Respect All People programme supports youth organisations taking a leadership role in their communities to eradicate violence among young people.
Youth Programme Trainer Dale Ferris says the project, which began in 2007, has been revised several times.
She says Monday's launch provides a new approach to what is a big issue nationally, especially with rangatahi.
Ms Ferris says youth workers in Gisborne, along with those who work in the areas of Maori health and violence prevention, are attending two-day interactive workshops.
She says there are also two workshops in Ruatoria this week, with several organised for Northland later in November.
