nz-dollarsApplications are now open for Te Punanga Haumaru funding that supports whānau and community-driven action that encourages positive social behaviour in children and reduces bullying. This includes bullying in the home and the community, not only in schools. The Government is investing $3 million per annum for four years in this fund.

Te Punanga Haumaru aims to build a community-wide commitment to addressing bullying of young people. It is intended to build on the experience and expertise that already exists in communities. It will give priority to projects that are collaborative, have support from across the community and have a clear plan to effect change. Young people should be involved in planning and implementation.

Key objectives and purpose 

  • to increase knowledge and understanding of the impacts of bullying and provide tools and strategies to support positive action through media, social media, websites and other information channels
  • to support communities to provide a safe and caring environment for their children and young people
  • to mobilise parent and family action for positive change

The purpose of the fund is to:

  • support whānau and community driven action that encourages positive social behaviour in children and young people, and reduces the incidence of bullying
  • build community ownership and commitment to changing attitudes and behaviours, and supporting local change

Applications are now open for the first round of the new Te Punanga Haumaru Fund.

The maximum grant available is $100,000 (GST excl) per annum, with projects funded for a maximum of twelve months. More information and the criteria and application form are available at www.familyservices.govt.nz/te-punanga-haumaru

Applications must be received no later than Friday 28 September 2012 to be considered for the first round.  Dates for the second round of funding will be announced via the Family and Community Services website link above.
