Shine's 'Safe At Home' service is to be extended from Auckland to South Auckland, Tauranga and Christchurch. The programme provides extra security and police alarms in the homes of people at risk of violence from ex-partners. It has been implemented in 218 Auckland homes to date, and Shine has received $400,000 from the Government to fund the programme over the next two years.

In Tauranga and South Auckland, safe@home will be offered through the Shine with Family Works partnership. In Christchurch, Christchurch Women’s Refuge will offer the service in partnership with Shine.

Each home costs about $3700 to make safer, which includes installing alarms, lights, latches and locks.

Domestic violence group Shine and Justice Minister Judith Collins launched the extension of the service.
