Child abuse in New Zealand/Aotearoa: Child issues, family issues and investigation issues.Download this presentation - 124KB PDF PresenterKay McKenzie WaimahakaSpeakerKay McKenzie WaimahakaOrganisationSouthlandKay McKenzie conducted a large study of child abuse investigations completed by Child, Youth and Family Services. The study has revealed numerous pivotal findings related to the abused children and their families, and also related to social workers' and police officers' decisions and actions when investigating child abuse. The findings that will be discussed include the family context of child physical abuse, and the relationship between children's behaviour and physical abuse. Several pertinent findings about physically-abused children's diffidence about telling others about their abuse will be presented. Also, avenues to maintaining children's rights during child abuse investigations will be suggested and recommendations will be made to policy makers and to those working with children.
