Making Connections: Attachment and ResilienceAuthorNicola AtwoolSpeakerNicola AtwoolOrganisationUniversity of OtagoAttachment and resilience theories have developed as two separate bodies of knowledge. It is argued that attachment theory provides insight into the mechanisms underlying resilience and that the concepts of attachment and resilience should be regarded as complementary. Applying this approach provides clear direction for ways to enhance children's overall well-being and resilience in the face of adversity. The cultural implications of this perspective are explored with reference to the New Zealand context. Policy and practice implications across the different domains of childhood are discussed.
