The New Zealand Family Violence Clearinghouse (NZFVC) is a Ministry of Social Development-funded project being established by a consortium consisting of Te Awatea Violence Research Centre and Information Technology Services at the University of Canterbury, with the National Collective of Independent Women's Refuges, Te Kupenga Whakaoti Mahi Patunga/ National Network Stopping Violence Services and Child Abuse Prevention Services (NZ). 

NZFVC is currently establishing a national centre for collating and disseminating information relating to family violence in Aotearoa New Zealand, including child abuse and care and protection issues.  The website www.nzfvc.org.nz provides searchable databases through which family violence research, best practice and training information can be accessed. The NZFVC will also produce and widely distribute regular newsletters, fact sheets and occasional Issues Papers.

The poster display will introduce the team establishing NZFVC; highlight the aims and functions of the Clearinghouse; outline the various ways to access information (through the website, hard copy repository and published material); discuss ways that the Clearinghouse can assist practitioners and researchers working in the area of family violence; and highlight some of the recent material that has become accessible through the website. A live-version of the site will be set up for conference participants to access. Leaflets and other promotional material will be available. Conference participants will also have the opportunity to register for the newsletter distribution list and to submit material that they wish to be included on the website.

Biography

Sheryl Hann is the Outreach Coordinator/Researcher for the newly established NZFVC. She is employed by the 3 NGOs who are partners in the Clearinghouse Consortium and is responsible for on-going liaison and networking with community and government agencies to collect information for, and promote, the Clearinghouse. Sheryl previously worked for 10 years as an advocate, and then Policy Research Advisor, for Women's Refuge.
