Family violence will be discussed a meeting of the New Zealand Federation of Multicultural Councils in Gisborne on 8-10 November 2013.

The Federation meets each quarter to discuss issues of relevance to ethnic communities. This November, the theme is 'E Tū  -  Learning from what works to prevent and stop family violence'. The aim is to develop a National Action Plan for Ethnic Communities.

The agenda includes a keynote address by Naida Glavish on learnings from the E Tū Whanau Programme of Action. Refugee and migrant social services national manager Ann Dysart will speak about E Tū and the Ministry of Social Development. Workshops will look at the development of a community action plan for stopping family violence in ethnic communities.

Other speakers include Director of Ethnic Affairs Mervin Singham, New Zealand Federation of Multicultural Councils President Tayo Agunlejika, President of the Tairawhiti Multicultural Council, Arish Naresh and Gisborne Mayor, Meng Foon.
