Using an interagency approach, Whānau Ora seeks to empower whānau as a whole by providing health and social services to families in need.

Te Puni Kōkiri, with support from the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment and the Ministry of Pacific Island Affairs, seeks to contract three Whānau Ora Commissioning Agencies from non-government organisations to build capability for:

  • Whānau and families with a North Island focus
  • Whānau and families with a South Island focus; and
  • for Pacific families.

NGOs with the knowledge, expertise and networks to build capability for families and whānau are invited to submit a proposal through the Government Electronic Tendering Service (GETS).

The Request for Proposal closes on Friday 20 September 2013 at 3pm.

The Request for Proposal represents an important milestone in Whānau Ora progress.  Minister Turia  says "This new commissioning model is an important stage in the progress of Whānau Ora that will maintain confidence in whānau and families to realise their own aspirations and enable their leadership and innovation."

The inclusion of a commissioning agency for Pacific Families was also welcomed by the Minister of Pacific Island Affairs Hekia Parata. The new agency is expected to work towards increasing prosperity for Pacific families living in New Zealand through innovative acitivites that best meet the needs of Pacific people. Minister Parata says "Pacific stakeholders will also be involved in developing a Pacific-focused Whānau Ora outcomes framework, and the Ministry of Pacific Island Affairs will play a pivotal role in establishing the frameworks to guide procurement and contracting, as well as supporting community engagements".

The Commissioning Agency for Pacific Families will be confirmed by the Minister of Finance and Minister of Whānau Ora in consultation with the Minister of Pacific Affairs.
